PALAEODEMOGRAPHY AND PALAEOEPIDEMIOLOGY RESEARCH GROUP

Palaeodemography and Palaeoepidemiology Research Group

Investigating past population dynamics and health through multidisciplinary approaches
The Palaeodemography and Palaeoepidemiology Research Group is a small team of biological anthropologists undertaking multidisciplinary research into palaeodemographic and palaeoepidemiological methods, theory and applied studies.

We are particularly interested in applied research in the Pacific Islands, Australia and Southeast Asia.

Our goal is to develop ground up approaches to past population dynamics and health, where evidence and data guide the development of methods and theoretical frameworks. Our work establishes and uses empirical foundations to make inferences about our inherently unverifiable past.

The methods developed by the Research Group can be accessed via the Palaeodemographic Calculator. The calculator will be updated and expanded as new methods become available.

Our group is spread across a number of locations, but the group lead is on unceded Ngunnawal, Ngunawal and Ngambri land. The cover photo was taken on unceded Kuku Yalanji land. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of these lands and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
